Hunted by the government, Saint Polydore managed to elude authorities until the infamous priest hunter Richard Topcliffe caught up to him and fellow priest Saint Edmund Gennings in the home of Saint Swithun Wells. Tortured and imprisoned in the Tower of London for refusing to deny the Catholic Faith, as well as for defending and protecting the Blessed Sacrament, Saint Polydore was hanged at Tyburn and is one of the 40 Martyrs of England and Wales.
