THE PRAYER
THE TWOFOLD MESSAGE OF
OUR LADY OF FATIMA
When Our Lady of Fatima appeared to the children in Portugal, she asked for two things. She promised if those two things were fulfilled, there would be peace in the world. Those two things were:
1. The Consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart for an end to Communism.
2. The devotion of the First Saturdays as an Act of Reparation.
Our Lady of Fatima promised that these two things, not one, but both, would help to prevent the fearful problems that are facing the world today. And if both were not done as requested and the world kept sinning, the world situation would get much worse.
On Thursday, December 10, 1925, Our Lady of Fatima appeared again in Pontevedra, Spain,to Sister Lucia who was now 18 years old. Sister Lucia had become a postulant with the Sisters of St. Dorothy. Resting her hand on Sister Lucia's shoulder, Our Lady showed her a heart encircled by thorns. Then the Child Jesus said, “Have pity on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother. It is covered with the thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to remove them with an act of reparation.”
Then Our Lady of Fatima revealed the Act of Reparation that would remove the thorns, the First Saturday Communions of Reparation, promising “to assist at the hour of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who,
• on the first Saturday of five consecutive months go to confession
• and receive Holy Communion,
• recite five decades of the Rosary
• and keep me company for a quarter of an hour while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary,
• with the intention of making reparation to me.”
Our Lady's first request for the Consecration of Russia by the administrative level of the clergy (the Pope and all the Bishops of the world) of the Catholic Church was accomplished by Pope St John Paul II in 1984.
Our Lady's second request of the First Saturdays was meant to be carried out by the priests and the lay members of the Church.
The second request was a critical one, on which depended the future outcome of the world, be it peace or war. This second request would greatly benefit, not only the individual believers who carried out the First Saturdays devotion, but also on a wider scale, if there were enough people practicing this devotion as a means of reparation for sin, it would draw down God's graces upon the world.
On July 1, 1905, the First Saturdays devotion was established in the Catholic Church by Pope Pius X. He approved and granted indulgences for the practice of the First Saturdays of twelve consecutive months in honor of the Immaculate Conception.
The 1905 devotion of 12 consecutive First Saturdays of the month is not the same as the 1925 devotion of 5 consecutive Saturdays of the month.
The universal practice of the 5 First Saturdays devotion is a condition associated with world peace, the conversion of many sinners, the grace of final perseverance for those practicing it, and also for the necessary unity and strength of the Universal Church. And ultimately, it will lead to the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary as she promised in Fatima.
